In 2009, Muthoni the Drummer Queen was selected to participate in an the online music initiative Africa Unsigned, a joint initiative by producers, artists, music promoters and managers who believe in the future of African music. Currently there are approximately 30 of us scattered across the globe. We are present in Europe, in South Africa, West Africa and in East Africa (Africa Unsigned 2010).

Pim Betist, founder of Africa Unsigned, also created online label SellaBand, attracting music fans to invest and empower unsigned artists. More than 3 million dollars were invested in unsigned talent and around 50 artists “crowdfunded” $50,000 to record and release their album.

NAIROBI TOUR

June 2010 saw the birth of a Nairobi tour with Label Dela. This tour is dubbed "Hawa: Live& Direct" Dela and Muthoni the Drummer Queens Tour Nairobi:

"Hawa" n. the Kiswahili name for "Eve", biblically the first woman on earth - the mother of all mankind. "Hawa" the first of us women, a pioneer, destined to recreate and transform the world. Hawa vrb. Kiswahili for "these ones."

Enter Dela and Muthoni the Drummer Queen. These are the ones! These dynamic women will take you on a musical journey unlike any other. Join us as we explore their albums, Paukwa – Dela, and the Drummer Queens – Human condition.

Seven venues, three compelling themes all delivered in doses that will have you coming back for more!

This tour is connected by three themes. The first is Techno sufurias, the second is “Where they hurt us” and the last is “heroes.” The first is ongoing and is introduced below. The second, “Where they hurt us” is set to be an exploration of the places women have been hurt physically, and metaphorically and shall creatively look at issues from work, men, children, lovers, war, and varied ideas. This tour culminates with a celebration of heroes that both Dela and Muthoni want to pay homage to. The heroes shall be from different fields and walks of life and if an incredible way for these legends in the making to set the pace.

The first; vrb, n, Techno Sufurias!

Where basic meets epic.

The more things change, the more things stay they same. From the days of smoke signals, hand written letters, landlines to email, instant messaging, and mobile phones. Ariel’s and satellites crown our growing skyline as the endless networks bring as closer together.

For centuries women have been bringing us together through food. The sufuria, an instrument of genius that withstands heat and converts the rawest forms into a feast. The most accessible and basic form of technology that shall continue to provide fuel to those in need. Techno sufurias is an expressive blend born of confusion and gratitude for all the basic and epic things that technology has brought us. Music is our fuel, have prepared a musical feast. Welcome to the next frontier. Come. Join us, and tell a friend ladies and gentlemen. Tell a friend.
