Last night on #BehindTheStory, Pearl Thusi sat down wih Somizi and even though most South African's feel that they know the critically acclaimed creative and artist inside out, there were some interesting things that we actually didn't know about him. If you didn't get to see the episode, don't worry we've got 5 things that we thought stood out.
1. He has zero jealousy.
While talking to Pearl, Somizi mentions that he naturally has the spirit of encouraging and uplifting people (unlike a lot of people in the industry); adding "I believe that you have nothing to lose by making someone feel good, by making someone see themselves better and I've always been a believer of (that) it's a huge pie and everybody can get a piece of it without pushing each other and pressing each other down".
2. From the age of 9 he already knew that he was an artist and a creative.
This made sense, considering that at the age of 14, Somizi dropped out of school to be part of Sarafina without telling his parents.
3. His autobiography was named after Brian Themba's song 'Dominos'
Somizi mentions that naming his book this was because he broke barriers down like they were dominoes.
4. He was excited when he found out that he is going to be a father
At the time, Somizi says that as a gay man, he saw this as an opportunity for him to leave something (someone) on earth. He felt that his purpose was fulfilled.
5. Somizi would rather "work a job that pays less and treats me with respect, rather than to do a job that pays well and treats me like kak".
Comfort is key for the Vanguard of the South African entertainment industry and he wants to be treated like the star that he is.
There you have it, make sure to catch the next episode of #BehindTheStory on 14 August featuring Busiswa.
