Got a burning question or two about the music industry? DJ Shimza wants to help. The "Makhe" hitmaker is hosting a free music industry workshop Saturday (30 June) at Zone 6 Venue in Soweto from 12 to 3pm. It will cover a range of industry related topics including copyright, publishing, registering your music, TV and radio submissions, production, DJing, marketing and PR, events and more.
"[The] reason why I'm doing this is just to make sure that people don't go into the industry with their eyes closed," Shimza said in a promo clip for the workshop. "We have had the chance and the advantage to be schooled by the likes of Oskido and DJ Fresh. I feel like it's up to us as the next generation to try and build that and make sure that it keeps going."
Who's it open to? "Whoever wants to learn about the industry and has questions to ask about the industry."
The workshop is part of Shimza's annual One Man Show (OMS). At 8pm on Saturday, Shimza will switch hats from wisdom bearer to dancefloor magician for the official OMS gig. Unlike the workshop, the show isn't free but it will also take place at Zone 6 Venue and features Emtee, Sjava, Busiswa, Moozlie and more. Somizi will be holding down MC duties
