As we all know the 2018 edition of the #MTVBaseVJSearch was kicked off at the Olive Convention Center in Durban on 21 July.
Needless to say, Durban peeps most certainly got the memo, as some of them got to the auditions venue as early as 3am with their game faces on and were ready to show how they #LiveLifeInColour. Despite their nerves getting the best of them, which makes sense since the judging panel was the definition of star power: Kelly Khumalo, Thomas Gumede and Boity Thulo, they still managed to bring their A-game.
"I want to see individuality, authenticity, comfort and confidence", emphasized Boity as she was getting ready to see the Durban hopefuls. Given the feedback and guidance from our judges, the top 25 was called in for a further cut down for the Top 2. Our current VJ, Tshego Koke also hosted master classes that aided this nerve wrecking process. With more excitement and ready to rock the judges one more time, the top 25 contestants came through and gave it their all.
The rest of you who weren't at the auditions will just have to wait to see who'll be repping your city in Johannesburg.
The after party which was a lit gathering at The Artizen Restaurant and Lounge in KwaMashu. The POA (plan of action) was for Durban to come through and show us how they 'vithiza' the dance floor. Listen, this is exactly what happened with fire sets from DJ Cndo who brought TDK MaCassette onto stage during her set.
The lineup also featured Junior De Rocka, whose set was made up of nostalgic hits with a hint of the most recent offering from across the world. Durban-born DJ's Benny Maverick and Rude Boyz, came through and showed how things are done in their hometown.
Right when we thought it couldn't be more fun, the highly flavoured Busiswa and her dancers set the stage on fire and created even more unbearable FOMO for all the people that were checking out the live streaming on our social pages.
NV Funk came on at some point and listen, he kept the flame of the party hotter than ever. People were sweating! We are pretty sure that right when the thought of sitting down to catch a breather came to mind, he held his drum sticks and handled the drums to move the souls of all those that were at Artizen and it was party time all over again.
There you have it; Durban was nothing short of INCREDIBLE!
The search continues in Cape Town at the Castle of Good Hope on 28 July 2018. See you there.
