Lagos, 26 August 2008: The vibrant Nigerian music scene goes under the spotlight as MTV and Zain give music fans Advance Warning of Nigeria’s hottest rising new stars – with a cool 5 million Naira prize at stake.
Premiering 31 August 2008 on AIT, STV and DStv, MTV & Zain Advance Warning is a brilliant new weekly ‘rockumentary’ TV show that zones in on Naija’s best and brightest talent. Giving viewers the inside track on the emerging stars of the future, MTV & Zain Advance Warning aims to answer the all-important question for music fans – which up and coming musician has what it takes to become Nigeria’s next superstar?
Twenty-six young musicians are lining up to compete for the title of MTV & Zain Advance Warning Artist, opening up new career horizons with a prize that includes a brand new music video shot by a top international music video director, and heavyweight promotion on music channel MTV base. Over the weeks, the 26 candidates will be whittled down to just three finalists, who will go on to participate in a gruelling ‘bootcamp’ at ‘The Loft’ where they will develop their craft with some of the world’s finest producers, vocal coaches, choreographers and stylists. At the end of the series, just one artist will emerge as the first ever MTV & Zain Advance Warning winner, taking home 5 million Naira and the chance to have a music video shot free of charge by a top international video director!
The contestants going head-to-head in MTV & Zain Advance Warning 2008 are: Durella, O.D., W4, G.I. Joe, Terry Da Rapman, Soty, Waje, Pype, Kel, Terry G, Big Weez, Gt Tha Guitarman, dee, F-shaw, Nicky Laoye, Kaha, Amaka, Kani, Frank Denero, Blaise, Barbara, Cyrus tha Virus, Z-Don, SLK, M.I. and Kenzos. Every week in MTV & Zain Advance Warning, a different pair of artists will go head-to-head in a bid to impress members of the public – and to earn themselves a slot in the semi final, in front of a panel of judges and a live studio audience.
MTV & Zain Advance Warning is hosted by MTV VJ (video jockey) Sizwe Dhlomo, with a little help from Big Tyme, Jimmy Jatt, 9ice and Sasha, who will be taking turns to co-present the show alongside MTV’s longest serving presenter.
Viewers and music fans will make their views known by participating in the voting for their favourite artists every week via SMS; voting lines close four days from the end of each show, with one artist eliminated once the votes are counted. MTV & Zain Advance Warning will air in Nigeria every Sunday on MTV base from 31 August to 28 December on DStv Channel 322 (19:30 local time/20:30 CAT) and on STV and AIT at 18:00 local time/19:00 CAT.
