Chance the Rapper almost brought down the Harold Washington Library Center in his hometown of Chicago Monday (11 June). While hosting an OpenMike Chicago event, Chance surprised the audience with Childish Gambino who delivered a special performance of "This Is America."
"My next guest needs no introduction so let's try it," Chance announced before stepping off to the side of the stage as the iconic opening chant of "This Is America" began seeping through the speakers. The audience didn't think twice, running to the front of the stage with cellphones in hand to capture the moment. And it was quite a moment -- Gambino turned the concert hall into a moshpit.
"This Is America" is easily Childish Gambino's most successful single yet having peaked at No. 1 in the US and Australia, charging forward with over 260 million views on YouTube and spawning dozens of remixes and spoofs from all over the world.
