Sassy MTV babe Fikile Moeti, aka ‘FIX’, made MTV history when she became the first female VJ on networks’ African music television channel. The bright and bubbly 21 year old beauty has graced our screens since 2006 when she won a nationwide competition to become MTV base’s newest VJ and the host of chart show MTV base World Chart Express. Fikile, at the time a student at Cape Town University, was picked from obscurity by MTV base from thousands of applicants and immediately joined the fast track into the limelight. After more than a year in the job Fikile has firmly established herself as an MTV presenter and now travels all over Africa representing the channel. Recent projects have taken her to Nigeria, Kenya and Tanzania where Fikile participated in a programme to find new MTV VJs in East and West Africa. Her latest gig is MTV 5FM Total Request Live served by KFC which she co-hosts with fellow VJ Sizwe Dhlomo; Fikile is the show’s ‘roving reporter’ and primary link to the ‘streets’, covering everything from events and launches to opinion pieces and interviews. You can also catch FIX’ dulcet tones on the radio show of the same name, which airs on 5fm every Saturday between 10 pm and 2 pm. Fikile is passionate about everything she does – loving fashion, art, clubbing and water polo (this versatile honey is a former South African water polo champion). Contemporary music is a great love of Fikile’s: while she’s a huge fan of hip-hop, her eclectic CD collection today shows the influence of MTV base’s on-air music mix, combining Gwen Stefani with DJ Fresh, Justin Timberlake and Simphiwe Dana, with a dash of GOI, Jozi and Goldfish on the side. When not in front of the MTV base cameras, FIX likes nothing better than getting behind the decks to do a bit of DJ-ing herself, playing a mix of genres from UK Garage house to Hip hop and dancehall. While relishing life in the Johannesburg fast lane, FIX still misses friends and family back home in Cape Town. Admits Fikile, ‘It was a bit of a wrench to move to Johannesburg at first but I’m loving the pace of the city! I try to get back to the Cape as much as possible, but it’s not always easy’. Now living in Bryantson, Johannesburg, FIX has fast made new friends in the city, where she regularly hangs out at Melville (cos it reminds her of Long Street in Cape Town), Newtown, and Moloko, and keeps herself in shape by working hard and hitting the gym. At 1.65m tall with molten chocolate brown eyes and a captivating smile, Fikile combines model good looks with brains, charisma and a disarming modesty - a stunning combination for this MTV base beauty - whose star is surely in the ascendant!
